Unrela Tournament, Operation Na Pali mod (PC) - 0:59.52 - François Micol
Big thanks go to Arran 'ShadowWraith' Kelf who was the first to make a speedrun through ONP, many tricks I used are inspired from what he does. Thanks also to Mark 'Allantois' Freyenberger ; his speedrun through Unreal 1 was another inspiration.
I'm not a particularly skilled player, so I'm sure many times could be improved using the same route, but I'm glad I managed to come up with (and perform) all those tricks which allowed me to improve upon ShadowWraith's run.
The 0:59 time refers to the game's timer, not the actual run time of the videos. The game's timer pauses during cutscenes (which is fortunate), hence the difference. ShadowWraith got a time of 1:04 on the game's timer (1:15 is actually his movie's run time), so the improvement isn't as spectacular as it might sound. ;)
Most tricks I used are fairly simple: rocket/ASMD jumps, abusing the translocator when I get it (even though I kinda suck), finding neat shortcuts, etc. Regarding codes, it's possible to save time by saving your game at the beginning of a map, memorizing the codes, then reloading your save (since they are only randomly generated each time you actually restart the map) so you won't have to go find them in some translator message. I don't consider this fair, though, so I always go and get the codes even if I already know them (see NP02, NP22, etc.)

NP02 - 2:53.76 (NP01 is the intro)
Not much to say about this one. Might be possible to save a second here and there, but I haven't found any special trick.
NP03 - 00:21.40
Not much room for improvement here.
NP04 - 2:09.57
Jumping into the water is a few seconds faster than the standard route. At 1:23, it might be possible to use the cliffs and reach the other side without dropping down, but I haven't managed it so far.
NP05 - 1:02.44
I improved a lot on this segment because the route I follow on NP06 doesn't require me to grab the superhealth.
NP06 - 0:57.48
One of the most spectacular jumps in the whole run, and probably the luckiest one, too. When you're falling, a glitch sometimes allows you to slow yourself down if you hug a cliff ; on this run I managed it with perfect timing. Regarding improvements, it might be possible to land closer to the house with the switch, and a couple seconds can be saved at the end if you know exactly where to duck.
NP07 - 1:53.96
Stole the lift trick from ShadowWraith. Wasted a couple seconds on the rocket jump because I didn't want to waste a rocket on the glass. I waste time and ammo fighting the two Skaarjs because they seem to like catching up to me during the cutscene and tearing me a new one before I can move again.
NP08 - 2:43.44
Don't ask... I had never noticed that glitch before, and I haven't managed to reproduce it so far (and I probably never will). Wasted a few seconds after the "nice little fire" cutscene because my computer was being a bitch.
NP09 - 1.56.39
The rocket jump allows me to avoid killing the two Skaarj and facing the Titan (even though I don't have to kill him, he likes to slap me when I try to run past him). No major fuckup here.
NP10 - 0:34.48
I don't take any falling damage from the rocket jump because, conveniently enough, I hit the ground right after activating the level end trigger. :D
NP11 - 1:09.91
Might be possible to stop the lift like in NP07, but I didn't manage to.
NP12 - 1:15.53
Don't mind the first rocket jump... the second one should have been a little higher in order to completely avoid the electric fence, but I messed it up.
NP13 - 3:07.49
No major tricks here, but it's definitely possible to improve on this route. This level was awfully slow on my system for some reason, which didn't help.
NP14 - 2:21.08
I just hate this one. I didn't manage my ammo carefully enough so I didn't kill the second Nali quite as fast as I should have. The room with the lasers was quite awful too, but I wanted to play the safe card there. Might be possible to just rocket jump above those, though (haven't tried).
NP15 - 2:36.44
Nothing big here. I'm out of rockets so funky jumps are pretty much out of question.
NP16 - 1:32.58
Damn this one was hard. I kept messing up the first rocket jump because of the Skaarj and the earthquakes. Anyway, both jumps can be significantly improved upon. It might also be possible to rocket jump to the top of the stairs from the bottom, but I decided I was going to need the health (and the rockets) later on.
NP17 - 2:06.34
I kill the Skaarj gunner because I need his rockets. The huge rocket jump took quite a bit of practise if you can't tell. It's definitely possible to do the last part faster (and to save more health).
NP18 - 2:15.50
I shouldn't have fallen from that wooden plank... and the rocket jump probably didn't require that many rockets. A few seconds to be saved.
NP19-1 - 1.56.33
After the first rocket jump, it's possible to do a second one next to the lava fall in order to reach the platform with the electric fence faster, but I didn't have the health for it.
NP19-2 - 1:12.05
It's quite cool that the door disappears right before the bomb explodes. Lacked confidence here and there but other than that it's not so bad.
NP19-3 - 1:14.24
This level was so unplayable I had to disable coronas (lens flares). Thanks to ShadowWraith for the route.
NP20 - 0:35.17
Nothing very spectacular here.
NP21 - 0:34.58
Saved quite a bit of time by rocket jumping over the lava pool. I have little health left but there's plenty of it in the following level.
NP22 - 2:08.57
Shouldn't have bumped into the Skaarj near the end. :(
NP23 - 1:08.99
Remember to keep running during the cutscene, for once you can actually move!
NP24 - 3:09.84
Probably the toughest segment of the run. I had a bit of trouble killing the Warlord fast enough, and it's not like the rest of the map is a walk in the park (4 rocket jumps). ShadowWraith's route at the end might be faster.
NP25 - 2:59.42
I should've gotten rid of the Skaarj on the ladder faster. Also, it might be possible to take an even better boost on the last rocket jump and thus avoid all the Skaarjs.
NP26 - 1:18.36
Keep running during the first cutscene. That's pretty much it.
NP27 - 2:04.00
Can you tell I suck at using the translocator? Anyway, wasted quite a bit of health there.
NP28 - 0:41.89
Thanks to ShadowWraith for the translocator trick, I'm not sure I would've found it myself. Anyway, I got incredibly lucky on that one. Stupidly wasted a couple second at the end though.
NP29 - 1:36.36
This one was tough because I was low on health at the beginning. It's possible to grab the superhealth above the lava without wasting much time but since the next level was rather quiet I decided I wouldn't need it.
NP30 - 0:37.52
Translocating under the lift rather than activating it saved a couple seconds.
NP31 - 1:19.13
Minor fuckups here and there, it's definitely possible to save more health/armor at the end but it requires a bit of luck.
NP32 - 1:58.07
If you get lucky (that's called quick load ad infinitum), the door on the right will stay open when the power goes out. That's 30 seconds easily saved.
NP33 - 0:48.99
This huge jump proved to be easier than I thought. I could've saved time by landing closer to the superhealth, though.
NP34 - 0:13.45
Quite a loophole there, don't you think? Anyway, it's probably possible to land closer to the level exit. I just didn't want to waste too much health.
NP35 - about 1:05
My computer refused to behave during the final fight, so I apologize if it looks a bit messy and whacky. But hey, I get to lock myself in an escape pod with Chryss!
